Rava upma

I usually love to have upma for my breakfast. If you have roasted rava and vegetables ready you can do it in a jiffy. This is a simple and healthy dish. You can also have it as a evening snack. It just take 10-15 mins to do this dish. So let’s get started.


  1. Roasted Rava – 1 Cup
  2. Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tsp
  3. Urad Dal – 1 tsp
  4. Split Chana Dal – 1 tsp
  5. Red Chili – 2 nos
  6. Onion – 1 medium size roughly chopped
  7. Tomato – 1/2 roughly chopped
  8. Green Chili – 3
  9. Ginger -1 inch
  10. Garlic -3 nos
  11. Diced Carrot- 2
  12. Peas – 1/2 cup
  13. Asafoetida- 1/2 tsp
  14. Curry leaves -7 leaves
  15. Cilantro- Finely chopped
  16. Salt and Oil as needed
  17. Water-2 cups


  1. To began making, in a pan add in needed oil, as the oil gets hotter add mustard seeds. Let it start splatter then add urad dal, split chana dal followed by red chili.
  2. Now it’s time to add roughly chopped onions ,tomato, ginger,garlic,curry leaves and green chili saute it well.
  3. After few minutes add in the vegetables one next to other. Cook it for a good 5 mins. Now its time to put Asafoetida and needed salt. Let it cook well.
  4. You can now add 2 cups of water, let the water come to a boil. In the boiling water add in the roasted rava and stir it continuously.
  5. With the lid on in a medium flame cook it for 5 mins. Finally add in some finely chopped cilantro. Serve it hot with sambar or coconut chutney. Happy Weekend.
